MAUI PIPELINE OPEN ACCESS

The Maui Pipeline is a 307 km long high pressure gas transmission pipeline running from the Oaonui Production Station (south of New Plymouth) to Huntly Power Station (south of Auckland) in the North Island of New Zealand.

The pipeline was commissioned in 1973 and is the largest capacity high pressure gas transmission pipeline in New Zealand.

It transports gas directly to large gas users such as electricity generators and petrochemical plants, as well as being the primary source of supply for other gas transmission and distribution pipelines.

The Maui Pipeline is owned by Maui Development Limited (MDL), which is the services company and contracting party with all Shippers and Welded Parties wishing to obtain gas transport services on, or connect with, the Maui Pipeline.

An Open Access regime governs the operation of the pipeline. This allows parties not affiliated with Maui Development Limited to ship gas through the Maui Pipeline at a competitive price. More background on Open Access can be found here.

Operational information on the Maui Pipeline can be obtained from the OATIS. OATIS, Open Access Transmission Information System, is the online, interactive software system developed to schedule and allocate gas on the Maui Pipeline.
